CUSTODY OF CHILDREN - SOLE CUSTODY OR JOINT CUSTODY
The main rule in Sweden is that parents have joint custody of their children. It is only if one parent is an unsuitable as a custodian, e.g. if he/she has subjected a close relative to violence, is an addict or has a mental illness, that the other parent can be granted sole custody. The court can also decree that one parent should have sole custody if the parents have major cooperative difficulties such that they cannot cooperate on matters concerning the child.
